From Sunday June 3rd through Tuesday June 5th, seniors who took Mr. McCarthy’s Latin American Studies course attended the 18th annual North Country Model OAS Conference at SUNY Plattsburgh.

The course involves rigorous study of current issues facing the Western Hemisphere and use of academic databases to research and write a resolution. The students then present these resolutions as delegates for El Salvador in the Organization of American States. All of our student’s resolutions passed, which involved issues in committees regarding General Hemispheric Affairs, Political and Juridical Affairs, Hemispheric Security, Integral Development, and Administrative and Budgetary Affairs. The students will receive three college credits for successful completion of the course and the conference with a B average. This year, we had twelve seniors enrolled in the course, all of which also took Economics 201 through SUNY Adirondack. This will mean that they will graduate with six college credits in lieu of taking the non-college credit NYS required Economics and Participation in Government.
