This year Bolton Central School sixth and seventh graders traveled to Raquette Lake for three days and two nights. Our students and their chaperones visited SUNY Cortland’s Outdoor Education Center at Camp Pine Knot, also known as Huntington Memorial Camp. It may have been pretty cold but there certainly was not a lot of standing still!
Bolton students took a snowy, fun-filled field trip to build camaraderie and bond through a variety of activities. Students participated in winter camp style events like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, animal tracking, star gazing, and studying the historic architecture of the site. This year students were also able to learn about how lake ice forms.
Run by SUNY Cortland and the William H. Parks Family Center for Environmental and Outdoor Education, Camp Huntington sits on Raquette Lake’s Long Point and is comprised of 40 buildings representing both modern conveniences and the historical legacy of the Adirondacks.
Chaperone Margaret Lawrence, Physical Education/Health teachers shared that, “Camp Huntington is a great experience for our students and we hope they are able to also discover winter activities they can enjoy for life.”
