BCS elementary students shared some time with Katie Boyle, a Public Health Educator from the Warren County Public Health Department. Ms. Boyle brought the Tar Wars Program into the classroom. Students were able to demonstrate their knowledge of the dangers of tobacco use via smoking and vaping. They also learned some new facts that could help them make informed decisions in the future.
Tar Wars is a program targeted at elementary aged children because they are impressionable and exposed to tobacco use at an early age. The goal of the program is to increase students’ understanding of the consequences of tobacco use and the deceptive tactics found in tobacco advertising. Offering a positive message about being tobacco free, hopefully before having to deal with peer pressure, can lead to a reduction of the health risks that come with even short-term tobacco use.
Thank you, Warren County Public Health, for providing an engaging program to help support the well-being of our students!
