The Young Scholars program is an enrichment platform that presents literature, writing, humanities, math, and science at a pace and level of instruction matched to a student’s abilities. The option also seeks to nurture an in-depth excitement around learning.
With winter and spring trying to decide who is up next, Young Scholars teacher, Rosemary Christle-Renaud recently brought a project idea to the Young Scholars. The project allowed students to design and build a 3D version of their dream treehouse. This activity focused on developing design elements, using multiple problem-solving skills , and collaborating in the classroom. Options included building a single room treehouse or create a multileveled mansion in the trees. Students could even attach their creations to others- the sky’s the limit, so to speak!
As part of this lesson, students learned to read through instructions, draw out plans, create a check list. Design and math skills were also a key part of this project! Combine all these elements with a healthy dose of creativity and our Young Scholars had a great learning experience and some fun!
