Tonight’s Baccalaureate Ceremony Will Be Live Streamed

This evening’s Baccalaureate ceremony recognizing our Class of 2024 graduates will be held at the Bolton Community Church at 7pm. Pastor Scott Matthews has shared two links where the ceremony can be watched via livestream. This is a great opportunity for friends and family of our graduates who cannot easily attend this event to still enjoy the evening and share in wishing our graduates well.

BCS High School Students Explore the Definition of History

History can be defined as the study of change over time. On Friday, June 7, 11th and 12th graders went out to Boston for the day with Mrs. Humiston, Mrs. Clark and Mr. Kober to experience an exhibit entitled Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away, an extensive collection of Holocaust artifacts. This exhibit "included hundreds of personal items of Auschwitz victims, including eyeglasses, suitcases, and shoes," as well as other artifacts, videos and many personal testimonials. It was a powerful and moving experience for all.

Our Bolton Varsity Baseball and Softball teams were treated to a lovely end of the season dinner. Our friends at Frederick’s Restaurant invited our groups to share a meal and celebrate their season. Members of the Booster Club were on hand to help with the evening. Frederick’s donated the dinner and wanted to gather the teams together to show support for our student athletes. Thank you to Frederick’s restaurant, Mr. Stuart Smith and our Booster Club for a very special evening! We are all very fortunate to be a part of such a supportive community!

Into the Woods – The Show Is A Hit!

Over 48 hours the Bolton Central School Drama Club put on THREE performances of Into the Woods - presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. All three shows combined brought in over 300 community members to enjoy a live performance right in their own backyard! Congratulations Anna Beuerman on Achieving a Seal of Biliteracy!

Congratulations to senior, Anna Beuerman, for successfully completing the requirements to earn her NYSED Seal of Biliteracy. In combination with her earned credits for French courses, Anna prepared and presented two language-based presentations, one in English, and the other completely in French to a panel. This panel then decides if the student demonstrates the required level of proficiency in all three modes of communication; interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational.

Battle of the Books 2024 was held on Monday, March 11th at SUNY Adirondack. This year the event hosted hundreds of students to make up 76 teams from 21 schools in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 competing. Bolton Central School sent three teams of 21 students in grades 3, 4 and 6 to the event.

Varsity Basketball Teams Achieve Scholar-Athlete Team Status

In addition to demonstrating outstanding athletic skill, our student athletes have been recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association as Scholar-Athlete Teams for the Winter 2024 Season. This award was created to highlight outstanding scholastic achievement by varsity level student athletes. The team’s average GPA for 75% of the roster must be greater than or equal to 90.00. We are so proud to acknowledge both our 2024 Varsity basketball teams - strong on the field AND in the classroom - Congratulations!!

Odyssey of the Mind - The Show Must Go On!

The BCS Odyssey of the Mind team this year was made up of two amazingly talented, committed and brave young women, Lillian Millington and Eliza Sawyer. Despite many set-backs that were out of their control, Lillian and Eliza formed a power team of two and went on to win 2nd place at the Region 6 Odyssey of the Mind Competition for Problem 5, Rocking World Detour.

Sixth Graders Make the Trip to Raquette Lake

Each year BCS sixth grade students head up to Raquette Lake for three days and two nights. Even though this winter was not ideal, students and their chaperones were able to make the journey across frozen Raquette Lake to Long Point at the end of January. Our students and three chaperones visited SUNY Cortland’s Outdoor Education Center at Camp Pine Knot, also known as Huntington Memorial Camp.

This past fall Bolton Central School’s Maintenance Mechanic, Charles Robinson was made aware of a potential problem. Many of the plastic stops that hold our school windows in place were either, cracked, broken or missing entirely. The manufacturer did not have any available and online searches came up empty. Mr. Robinson had an idea; maybe Mr. Boire’s Drawing for Design and Production students could come up with something?

Wrapping Up the 2023 - 2024 Basketball Season - What a Great Run!

The BCS Lady Eagles finished the season at 16-4 overall with a .800 winning percentage, 11-3 in the League, and a spotless 6-0 record in Division 2 earning the team the 2024 MVAC Division 2 Title. The Lady Eagles ranked as high as 9th in the state this year in Class D Girls’ Basketball by the NYS Sportswriters’ Association.

Celebrating 100 Days of School

Recently our elementary students had a great time celebrating the 100th day of school. Lessons included facts about the calendar and lots of ways to make math fun and enjoyable. There was a lot of counting to 100, finding 100 things and also understanding that 100 is a place holder in math. Students made a tower of ten cups on each of their desks. Then they took turns creating a cup tower by adding their ten cups to make a 100-cup tower. Everyone enjoyed the activities, working and being together!

From Magnet Basics to Maglev!

Recently our 2nd grade students were introduced to the basics of magnets. A special guest, Bolton Central School retired science teacher Mr. John Gaddy, shared his magnet science knowledge and provided students with a few hands-on experiments. Down the hall in our Technology Lab, our 8th grade students were also working with magnets. They worked with the basic magnet principles our 2nd graders were learning and taking their problem-solving skills to the next level.

This past week our kindergarten students were immersed in the study of owls. The habitat, lifecycle and habits of owls were all part of the learning. The Key Club and BCS PTO volunteers hit it out of the park with their Pancakes and Pajamas Holiday Party. With lots of folks visiting, the cafeteria was filled with pajama clad students and parents. Pancakes for dinner are always fun but to share an evening filled with family, friends, holiday crafts, music and pancakes is extra special. What may have been most special of all? Santa was able to stop by for a quick visit! Thanks to everyone who helped make this such a fun evening!

Art Students Work With Indigo Dye

Students interested in art have the option to take a Creative Crafts course. In this class, students will be exploring the world of hands-on craft and folk art and will work with multiple mediums outside the world of traditional visual fine arts. Students will develop skills that will enable them to respond critically to their own pieces as well as the pieces produced by their peers. Students will develop an appreciation and understanding for a variety of artists and ways to create different types of folk art and traditional craft.

Summer Reading Gets A Head Start!

Bolton Central School elementary students were the lucky beneficiaries of a very generous act! The Bolton Free Library was awarded a grant from the Generous Acts Fund at Adirondack Foundation. Northshire Bookstore in Saratoga was happy to lend their guidance with a great selection of books. This is the second year that the town library was able to donate books to BCS students.

The most important responsibility anyone has while operating a vehicle of any kind is paying close attention to one’s surroundings. Sadly, the consequences of driving under the influence are ever present. From Literature to Real Life!

Our 6th grade students recently finished reading the book Peak by Roland Smith. This realistic fiction novel is about a 14-year-old boy who is given the opportunity to try to become the youngest person to reach the top of Mount Everest. The novel addresses many important issues young adolescents face. Through the literature students explore themes such as courage, honesty, interdependence, change, hope and respect.

Important Information For Our BCS Community

We have been made aware of reports that several school districts in the Capital Region are responding to false reports made to police about school shooting incidents. These "swatting" reports intend to draw a police response to the school in each of these communities and cause the schools to go into lockdown. These swatting calls seem to be widespread throughout the Capital Region and NY State.

Exploring Science in Kindergarten

Hands on science can be messy but not when you learn about cloud accumulation and rain in Mrs. Egloff and Mrs. Persons’ class! Kindergarteners used a dropper to add drops of water to a sponge to start to better understand how rain cloud happen. They also learned about all of the different types of clouds and what kind, if any, of precipitation they bring! Lessons like this help our students better understand the world around them, how things work and nurture a love of learning.

BCS Youth & Government Students Earn Leadership Roles & Accolades!

The best way to understand how this country’s democracy works is to practice it. Thirty-two Bolton Central School students traveled to the Capitol to present, debate and lobby for Legislative Bills. Some the issues that were presented included instituting a standard of prenatal care in the prison systems of New York state and a potential regulation requiring schools to survey student feedback at the end of each school year. Other issues that were discussed were requiring a self-defense module as part of physical education for all students, and the bill voted most outstanding by the Youth & Government, student elected, Governor was regarding hydrogen pumps!

Drama Club Students Head to the Theater

Recently Drama Club advisor McKenzie Cleary took students to on a trip to Proctors Theater. The privilege of seeing professional theater productions inspires our students for their own upcoming performance at the end of March, as well as fostering a life-long appreciation for the performing arts. During the trip to see Hadestown, Bolton students were impressed by the caliber of professional actors and musicians, and learned a bit about Greek mythology as well!

Mic and Jessica Visit With Love and Support

Many studies have shown that reading to dogs is a great way to improve self-confidence and public speaking skills. This is because it provides an opportunity for students to speak out loud, but without the judgement of human company. Therapy pets allow children to focus on the animal instead of feeling self-conscious themselves. Studies indicate that this is a therapeutic distraction technique that relieves children of their worries, which helps their performance when reading.

Pre – K Falls Into Winter

With winter in full swing, our Pre-K students headed to Up Yonda Farm. Students learned that as winter approaches, animals and plants prepare for the change in different ways. Students examined how wildlife survives the season of cold and wind. Some of the activities focused on migration, hibernation, and adaptations.

Congratulations Julianna!

BCS 4th grader, Julianna Shippee, competed in her first gymnastics meet of the season at Siena College this past weekend. Competing for the Aerials Gymnastics level 4 team, Julianna tied for first place and took home the silver medal after a tiebreaker for her balance beam routine. There were 11 teams from the capital region and other parts of the state competing.

Fourth Graders Explore Bolton’s Roots

Recently Mr. Andrejkovics’ 4th grade class spent the day with Mr. Ted Caldwell and Mr. John Gaddy exploring the historical places in and around Bolton. The group visited such sites as Mohican Point, Jacoby Park and the site of the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp, just to name a few. While on Mohican Point, the group caught sight of an asylum of loons and were fortunate enough to enjoy their calls.

Students Work “For Pride, Not Profit”

Secondary students have a brand-new class option this year titled Fabrication Lab and Videography. During the Fabrication portion of the course, students create items that enhance the school environment in some way. The current project they are working on is Eagles’ Nest t-shirts which are the first product in their line of Eagles’ Nest merchandise. All pre-ordered t-shirts are sold at cost with the theme being “for pride, not profit.”

Both boys and girls Bolton-Warrensburg Varsity soccer teams claimed the Adirondack League Champion titles! Friday afternoon the Varsity Boys’ final score versus Fort Ann was 2-1. Saturday afternoon the Varsity Girls were up and faced the challenge and came out with 1-0 victory over Fort Ann. All the teams played well and the games were exciting to watch and close. Kindergarten and 1st Grade Head to Up Yonda Farm

Fall is a beautiful time to be outdoors. It’s also the time when monarch butterflies make their migration to warmer climates. Our kindergarten and 1st grade students headed over to Up Yonda Farm to learn about the lifecycle of the monarch butterfly. The group enjoyed a hands-on science lesson from Up Yonda Farm’s resident naturalists. The trip was a great opportunity to be outside and learn together!

A Busy Day Outdoors for 2nd Grade!

Earth Science Students Go Back In Time
10/04/2022
Recently our Earth Science students traveled to Ausable Chasm. Students hiked the steep paths of sandstone, a sedimentary rock that had been deposited over half-billion years ago at a time when the Adirondack Mountains were covered by a warm, shallow sea. Descending into the chasm, the students traveled back in time, until they reached the base of the chasm, a metamorphic rock that remains from the ancestral mountains of the region that once dominated the area, rising higher than the Himalayas. To finish their adventure. students climbed into rafts and navigated the tight bends and white water of the Ausable River.

Two Nights of Varsity Soccer Under the Lights And Senior Night Celebrations!

Each year Bolton Central School honors its graduating senior athletes in each sport throughout the year. In the fall, the community has made is possible to hold “under the lights” games on our home field. It’s a memorable tradition that our student athletes truly appreciate! The Varsity Boys’ soccer game versus Corinth resulted in a 3-0 victory. The Varsity Girls’ soccer game versus Salem resulted in 4-0 victory! Both of these exciting games made celebrating our graduating student athletes extra special. Congratulations to all our student athletes! A Great Day to Practice Bicycle Safety!

Lifecycle Lessons in Pre-K!

From egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to adult, the life cycle of a butterfly is one science lesson that Mrs. Soper and Mrs. Wysocki’s Pre-Kindergarten students won’t soon forget! Last week our young scientists were able to release their fully developed butterflies to live the rest of their lives in the wild. Stocking Trout Lake- All Hands On Deck!

Mr. Volkmann and his students have been missing this exciting event. This year was extra special with fifteen students, as well as BCS Principal Mr. Shippee, on the dock at the Trout Lake Club. All were fortunate to be on hand to watch Avery Fish Hatchery release 1,000 10 -12-inch rainbow trout into Trout Lake. Town of Bolton Supervisor Ron Conover joined Mr. Volkmann and his students for this yearly event. We are very fortunate to be part of the Town of Bolton who includes our students in this exciting kick-off event for warmer weather!

This year's Odyssey of the Mind team put together a biographical musical based on the famous pilgrimage or Hajj made by Mansa Musa in 1324. They learned about Mansa Musa in Mr. Morency's history class and were inspired to write their skit based on his story.

A Great Camp Day!

Recently a group of ten 6th and 7th graders had an opportunity to build on their positive experience’s cross-country skiing at Raquette Lake Great Camp Pine Knot trip a few weeks ago! For many of these students it was only their second outing on skis. These swift eagles went on a ten-mile round trip to Santanoni Great Camp.

It’s Only Cold if You’re Standing Still!

This year Bolton Central School sixth and seventh graders traveled to Raquette Lake for three days and two nights. Our students and their chaperones visited SUNY Cortland’s Outdoor Education Center at Camp Pine Knot, also known as Huntington Memorial Camp. It may have been pretty cold but there certainly was not a lot of standing still!

Youth & Government students were grateful to recently attend a District Conference to prepare for their State Convention in March. The conference was held in person at the Silver Bay YMCA Conference Facility. Six schools were able to safely send representatives. 1st Grade Works With Measuring and Chemistry!

Recently our 1st graders created Play-Doh from scratch. They followed a recipe that required they measure out ingredients accurately. The group then witnessed chemistry in action! It was a fun, hands-on exercise that allowed them to get messy while learning.

The First Outing Club Trip of the Year!

The Outing Club headed out for a two-day, two-night camping trip to St. Sacrament Island and a Shelving Rock hike. The weather was perfect and the trip was a great experience for all involved. Students and their advisors traveled by boat to St. Sacrament Island to camp. They were to carry in everything they needed for the weekend and leave no trace upon their departure. Being able to enjoy the natural beauty right in our own backyard is truly amazing!

On Wednesday, September 22nd the Varsity Boys Soccer team will play Granville and on Thursday, September 23rd, the Varsity Girls will play North Warren. Changes to Bolton Central School Breakfast and Lunch Charges

Due to the ongoing circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bolton Central School District has amended its policy regarding Bolton Central School area children for serving breakfast and/or lunch under the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) of the National School Lunch Program for the 2021 – 2022 school year, which will allow for all children attending Bolton Central School to be served reimbursable meals at no charge.

Recently our third, fourth and fifth grade students enjoyed a day at Into The Woods Farm. Their mission is to inspire character development and self-discovery through example, experience, knowledge, challenge, and adventure. The hope is to encourage people to achieve more than they ever imagined possible while showing compassion for others, environment and community and to actively engage in creating a better world for all who inhabit it. The highlight of the day was spending time with resident goats for a session of goat yoga!

Celebrating the 100th Day of School

Recently our Pre- Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st Grade students had a great time celebrating the 100th day of school. Lessons included facts about the calendar and lots of ways to make math fun and enjoyable. There was a lot of counting to 100, finding 100 things and also understanding that 100 is a place holder in math.

Holiday Concert 2020 Goes Virtual!

Monday, December 21st was Concert Day for our BCS music programs. Below are the links to the concert videos that were prepared by our wonderful music teachers, Mr. DeLappa and Miss Cleary. Although this year's concert may have been a bit different but it was still a great way to get into the holiday spirit. Our choral and band ensembles filled our gym with sounds of the season! The community was able to tune in from the safety of their homes and our musicians were able to share their performance.

First Grade Climbs The Pinnacle!

Not too long ago, Mrs. Castellano's first grade class was able to take in a lesson outside of the classroom. With the help of Mrs. Carney-Nesbitt, a day was planned to hike The Pinnacle, learn more about our forests, the changing seasons and to get a bird's eye view of Bolton. The group did very well and had a great day!

Key Club Sending Holiday Cheer

Traditionally this would be the time of year that members of the Key Club would pay a visit to their friends at the Pines Glens Falls Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Unfortunately, the group was not able to visit this year. Instead they got together to make cards so that their friends at the Pines know that we are thinking of them this holiday season!

6th Grade Science Takes the Plunge - With SeaPerch ROVs!

art of the 6th grade science curriculum is to build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), a SeaPerch. Our students were able to work through the curriculum in the Fabrication Lab and test the vehicles at the indoor pool at The Sagamore Resort. In addition, students had the opportunity to use underwater video equipment and software as part of the project.

Kindergarten Tours Bolton

Our Kindergarten class recently took a walking tour of Bolton. They visited the Post Office, Town Hall, the Library and Neuffer's Deli. At each spot students got a tour and learned about the jobs at each of these businesses. The class had lunch at Roger's Park and had a great day. Thank you to everyone who took the time to chat with our kindergarteners!

2020 PTO BEST Program Off To A Great Start!

Peer Mentors Working Together to Build Friendships!

Class of 2021 Seniors Katelyn Van Auken, Morgan Maschewski, Maria Baker, Billy Morehouse and Kaden Tennent worked together with a group of 5th and 6th grade students to paint pumpkins for Halloween. Peer Mentoring is looking a bit different this year but working together on a project is still as rewarding as ever! We look forward to seeing more activities like this that allow our Peer Mentoring participants time together.

Earth Science Students View the Lake George Basin

Recently Mr. Sheridan and his Earth Science students were able hike the Cat and Thomas Mountains to get a bird's eye view of Lake George and the surrounding area. From there, students were able to better understand how the Adirondack mountains and Lake George were formed.

Congratulations Section VII Varsity Girls Basketball Champions!

On Friday, March 6th the Bolton Eagles Varsity Girls Basketball team beat Schroon Lake 39 - 28 to become the Section VII, Class D champions! The team will play Fort Edward in the Regional Final on Saturday, March 14th at noon at Beekmantown High School.

Sergeant 1st Class Arthur Coon Visits Kindergarten

Sergeant Coon spent the morning with our Kindergarteners recently. The class put together care packages and notes for our soldiers. School Bus Driver Appreciation Day and Celebrating 40 Years!

Recently one of our BCS drivers passed a fantastic milestone! Rich Kober has been safely transporting Bolton Central School students for 40 years. A little more than a generation of students have benefitted from Mr. Kober's friendly nature and parents and guardians have been able to rest assured that their children will arrive at their destinations safe and sound. At the Tuesday, January 21st game versus Lake Placid, Maria Baker became the second Bolton junior this season to reach 1,000 points for her basketball career. Maria needed 24 points to reach her milestone and by the end of night she scored a total of 31.

Cornell Cooperative Extension's Farm to School Program Visits BCS!

Cornell Cooperative Extension's Farm to School Program sent Program Coordinator Annie to have BCS elementary students sample two varieties of local apples and pick their favorite! Annie worked with our Cafeteria Manager Mrs. Maranville to prepare and share the apples and vote. It was close but between Empire and Gala apples, Gala was the favorite!

Bolton Central School Celebrates New York School Breakfast Day!

BCS Students started their day off with a good breakfast and some fun! As part of New York School Breakfast Day, Bolton students were treated to a free breakfast provided thanks to Hunger Solutions New York, and No Kid Hungry. Students were also provided with pencils, rulers, erasers and sunglasses for recess, knowing that a day that starts with a good breakfast is sure to be a great one!

Student Researchers Present at the Eighth Annual Science Research Symposium

Three students from Bolton Central School's Advanced Science Research course presented their findings on a variety of topics at the Eighth Annual Bolton Central School Science Research Symposium held recently in the school library. 1st Graders Celebrate Fairy Tale Day

1st Graders celebrated Fairy Tale Day recently. Meghan, Ms. Purdy's student teacher, led the week and students learned about the genre, compared and contrasted Cinderella and Cinder Edna (Cinderella's neighbor who got things done without the help of a fairy godmother.) Students incorporated practicing nouns, verbs and adjectives along with measuring Rapunzel's hair in inches and centimeters, and the Queen of Hearts ordered the group to solve math problems. Of course, there were extra treats to eat while students were in costumes or dressed up for a ball!
